A tremendous amount of effort has gone into the initial stages of clearing the site. While preserving nature is paramount, we had to cut back extensive brambles and bushes to access the barn and facilitate future maintenance. The fact that we were unaware of the barn’s existence when submitting our Pre-app plan highlights just how overgrown everything was.
Fortunately, much of the clearance had been tackled last summer, making our task somewhat more manageable, as the greenery had previously encroached right up to the Nissen hut and silos. Over several days spread out over weeks, we managed to clear a significant area to the right/north of the barn. However, more work is required throughout the year to keep the growth in check and continue reducing the wilderness.
The support from various people was invaluable; doing it alone would have been incredibly slow. It was particularly crucial to have assistance on-site when I accidentally felled a tree on myself and became trapped beneath it, ensnared by brambles. Despite the mishap, the collective effort has brought us one step closer to our goal.
